This weekend my mom and brother came down to DC to visit for the first time! They arrived mid-day Friday and stayed till Monday morning. This was the first time any family has visited Tyler and I (except for Tyler's dad who helped us move in, but that was more work than a visit). We had a wonderful weekend.
On Friday, Mom, Steve, and I went to the pool at our apartment complex. Neither Tyler and I have been there before (and quite frankly did not know how to get in). The pool was very nice and refreshing considering the consistently 90 degree weather we have been having. When Tyler came home, the two of us made dinner. crunchy chicken, cheesy potatoes, and green beans, which is a recipe from Tyler's family.
Saturday, we took a trip into DC to see some sites. We started by going to the National Archives to see the famous documents on which our country is founded. Then we walked down to the Washington Monument and continued on to the Lincoln Memorial. On our way back to the metro we stopped by the Vietnam Memorial and the White House. It was really really hot, upper 90's at least, and we were all tired from the day. That night we went out for mexican food at Uncle Julio's which is located in this very cute shopping area with live music, plenty of restaurants, and a movie theater nearby.

On Sunday, we started the day off at the pool, which again was a very nice and surprisingly not crowded for a weekend. Our next plan was to stop at the mall and then go out to dinner and a crab and rib place Tyler and I had our eyes on. Well, that was the plan until a crazy 30 min storm blew (tornado warnings) through the area. The lights were flickering and it looked like a hurricane outside, because the rain was falling sideways. At the end of the storm mom went to get her umbrella out of the car which was parked on the top level of our parking deck. While she was gone the power went out for good. Steve quickly realized the mom took the elevator to the car and was now stuck. She was stuck in the elevator for 1 hour and 15 min until the fire department came. Once mom was free we still went out to dinner. We drove all the way to Annapolis, MD to Buddy's Ribs and Crabs which was recommended from our friend Mike. After dinner we went to the movies to see "Inception", which was getting great reviews (definitely worth seeing). When we got back to the apartment the power was still out (it stayed out until 4 am Tuesday morning).

We had a great time hosting mom and Steve. I was happy to have my family here and to show them where I live, work, and play. We are looking forward to more visits from family, whose next?
