Where to begin?

In a few months we will be graduating from Penn State and will be entering a new stage in our lives. The past four years have been amazing and we have created many lasting memories. There were sell-out football games, late night homework sessions, and memorable moments with friends. We will always remember what Penn State gave us and our lives here. As we move beyond Penn State and forward into a new chapter we thought it was only fitting to mark it by establishing a blog. Here we wish to record our thoughts and memories for a friends and family to hear.

Our story begins on the first day of freshman year. I met Tyler during freshman orientation at the HUB, our student center. It was just by chance that we met. I was with my long time grade school friend and freshman roommate Sherri playing pool. Tyler and a friend had a similar idea, but luckily for us there were not enough tables to go around. That is when he asked if he could join our table... and the rest is history! More seriously, the truth is, that is when our friendship began. We were best friends for 6 months. We did everything together, homework, movies, football games, and the list goes on. It was not until late January that we admitted we liked each other. Though, if you ask our friends, it was quite obvious.

Tyler and I Spring freshman year

Our college run has been very typical. We have amazing friends, some from the beginning, and some we met just this year. After freshman year, I spent the summer back in Pittsburgh working as a waitress at the local restaurant I worked at in high school. Tyler, who is from the St. Louis area, opted to stay at Penn State to take summer courses. Only a 2 and half hour drive separated us.

Spring break in Naples, FL sophomore year

The next summer we were not so lucky. Tyler took an internship in Indiana to supplement his Electrical Engineering Degree, and I being a physics major worked in a physics and material science research lab at Penn State. That was a long summer, but Tyler managed the 9 hour drive for an extended fourth of July weekend in State College. For the next summer we knew we didn't want to do that again. I managed to get an internship at the same company in Indiana, and we spent the summer together and made more lasting friendships.

This leaves us now as seniors frantically looking for jobs as we watch the economy plummet. Despite these shaky times, we are ever optimistic. We are just beginning, and still have lots of opportunities open to us. If anything, we can use this as a reminder to appreciate what we have, and learn from the mistakes of others so that we can be prepared for our future that we are so eager to make.

Now you know our beginning. Stay tuned for the more humorous and exciting updates of our adventures as we finish our career at Penn State.

  1. I love this! You did such a great job on your blog and it's the perfect time to set it up. Lisa's "Where to Begin..." had me reaching for the tissues! I remember the beginning well - it's risky when you fall in love with your best friend. The pictures are great! Keep the news coming - it's an exciting time! I close with this thought:
    Down with the ticker! (:

  2. Hi guys! It is great to hear from you. I was just thinking about trying to get a hold of you the other day actually. I'm glad to read that you are both doing well ... hopefully enjoying your last year at PSU! Eric and I and the family are hanging in there. Things at Delphi are unstable as you can imagine. We still think if we make it out of bankruptcy that Delphi will be ok ... we'll see if they can actually make that happen or not (as of today they are still paying us). We've had the house on the market since November and we just got word Friday that we might be getting an offer! Keep your fingers crossed. Who knows what the future holds for us?? Anyway, you inspired me to try to do a better job keeping up with the blog. I didn't think anyone was reading it ;-)
